Bulldogs make national football watch lists

Three Mississippi State football players could be found on two different national awards watch lists on Tuesday.
Senior Bulldog quarterback Dak Prescott made the watch list for the Maxwell Award, while senior defensive back Will Redmond and junior defensive lineman Chris Jones were included on the watch list for the Chuck Bednarik Award.
Prescott, who was a finalist for the Maxwell Award in 2014, finished eighth in the Heisman Trophy running as well last year.
The Maxwell Award is presented to the best college football player in the nation.
“I am enjoying every moment of it,” Prescott said during spring practice. “(I’m) trying to make sure I lead guys and put everyone in the position they need to be in.”
Prescott said it’s important to him to be sharp on every aspect of the game so he can teach the younger quarterbacks how to perform in the system.
The signal caller from Haughton, Louisiana, enters the season only nine touchdowns short of joining Tim Tebow as the only two Southeastern Conference player in history to rush for 40 touchdowns and throw for 40 touchdowns in a career.
Prescott broke 12 single-season MSU records last season.
Redmond is coming off a junior season where he recorded 51 tackles, including three for a loss, and had three interceptions.
On the defensive line, Jones had 26 tackles with 3.5 for a loss.
The semifinalists for both the Maxwell and Bednarik Awards will be announced on Nov. 23.
