Mississippi State’s Preston Brown will not pitch next season for the Bulldogs. Instead, he will attend medical school a team spokesperson confirmed Friday.
The news was first reported by the Clarion Ledger.
The right hander is coming off his junior year in which he made 14 appearances, all 14 of those being starts. He compiled a 5-8 record and threw one complete game. He pitched 71 2/3 innings and recorded 54 strikeouts and only 26 walks. He gave up 38 earned runs on 87 hits.
Brown was primarily used as the Saturday starter during Southeastern Conference play. With Lucas Laster graduating, that leaves just junior Austin Sexton as the only returning weekend starter for the Bulldogs.
