Blog – Report: Collins to leave MSU for Florida

Sports Illustrated reports that Mississippi State defensive coordinator Geoff Collins will leave for Florida to take the same position.

SI says a deal has not been finalized, but it would be the first hire by new head coach Jim McElwain.

Collins has spent four years with the Bulldogs. He was the co-defensive coordinator in 2011 and 2012. He became the full-time defensive coordinator in 2013.

He also worked with the linebackers.

He signed a two-year extension with MSU after the 2013 season worth $1.2 million. He made $575,000 in 2014, which is ranked 17th in the SEC among assistants.

He has also coached at Florida International, Central Florida, Alabama, Georgia Tech, Western Carolina, Albright College and Franklin (N.C.) High School.
