Mississippi State reached a milestone Friday evening.
The Bulldogs beat Western Carolina 66-56 for the 400th victory at Humphrey Coliseum.
The Hump opened during the 1975-76 season and has been the home of the Bulldogs ever since. MSU is 400-157 all-time in the building.
The Bulldogs (1-0) led the Catamounts (0-1) 31-30 at halftime after Gavin Ware got an offensive rebound and put it back as the buzzer expired to give MSU the lead. The Bulldogs outscored Western Carolina 35-26 in the second half.
Ware tallied a double-double for the Bulldogs with 14 points and 10 rebounds. It is his 10th double-double of his career. The former Starkville High School native shot 57 percent (4-of-7) from the field. Senior Roquez Johnson led the Bulldogs with 16 points. Junior Fred Thomas added 15 points.
The Bulldogs are back in action Monday as they host Mississippi Valley State at 7 p.m.
