Mississippi State junior Benardrick McKinney is a semifinalists for the Butkus Award, the Butkus Foundation announced Monday morning.
The award is given to the nation’s best linebacker in college football.
He is one of 15 linebackers from 12 institutions included on the list. The Southeastern Conference has five players on the list. Georgia’s Jordan Jenkins and Ramik Wilson, Tennessee’s A.J. Johnson and Alabama’s Reggie Ragland are also on the list with McKinney.
The Tunica native leads MSU with 45 tackles. He also has six tackles for loss and three sacks. He has recovered three fumbles and forced one.
The list will be trim down to finalists on Nov. 24 with the winner being announced Dec. 9.
