Blog – MSU’s Brown, Beckwith win weekly SEC honors

Mississippi State’s Richie Brown and Ben Beckwith earn weekly Southeastern Conference honors, the league announced Monday.

Brown is the SEC Defensive Player of the Week, while Beckwith earns his second Offensive Lineman of the Week award this season.

MSU has had seven weekly league honors this season, the most among SEC teams.

Beckwith made the transition from right guard to center this week, with Dillon Day suspended. The offense didn’t miss a beat and totaled over 500 yards for the sixth straight game.

Beckwith won the award for his efforts against LSU two weeks ago.

“All I can say is Wow,” Beckwith posted on Instagram. “I truly am blessed to be on such an amazing team the blessings keep pouring in thanks for all the support #HailState.”

Brown had three interceptions against Texas A&M quarterback Kenny Hill. Hill had only thrown two the entire season.

The Long Beach native also won the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week.

Ole Miss signal caller Bo Wallace is the Offensive Player of the Week. He threw for 251 yards and three touchdowns as the Rebels downed Alabama.

Auburn’s Daniel Carlson is the Special Teams Player of the Week after making 46- and 42-yard field goals in a win over LSU.

Florida defensive back Jalen Tabor and Georgia running back Nick Chubb earn Co-Freshman of the Week. Tabor forced and recovered a fumble as the Gators beat Tennessee. Chubb rushed for 78 yards and one score as Georgia upended Vanderbilt

Kentucky’s Alvin “Bud” Dupree is the Defensive Lineman of the Week. He returned an interception for a game-winning touchdown against South Carolina.
