A trio of Mississippi State Bulldogs were selected to preseason award watch lists on Monday.
Senior wide receiver Jameon Lewis was selected to the Hornung Award watch list, given to the most versatile player in college football. Junior linebacker Benardrick McKinney was on the Bednarik Award watch list, given to the Defensive Player of the Year, and junior quarterback Dak Prescott was selected to the Maxwell Award watch list, handed to the National Player of the Year.
Lewis showed his versatility last season. The Tylertown native caught a touchdown, ran for a touchdown and passed for a touchdown in two different games last season for the Bulldogs. He burst onto the scene in his junior year with 923 receiving yards on 64 catches and five touchdowns.
He completed the only three passes he threw for 84 yards and three touchdowns. He rushed the ball 13 times for 117 yards and three touchdowns.
McKinney is expected to have a big season for a very good Bulldog defense. The Tunica native led the Bulldogs with 71 total tackles last season. He had seven tackles for loss with 3 1/2 sacks. He also recovered two fumbles.
Prescott is also geared up for a big season and is a big reason the Bulldogs have received a good bit of preseason hype. The Haughton, La. native completed 156-of-267 passes for 1,940 last season after taking over the starting job when Tyler Russell was injured. He threw 10 touchdowns in just 11 games played. He led the team with 829 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns.
