Brett Pirtle wasn’t recruited by an of the big teams in Texas, so with Texas A&M coming to town this weekend, he is playing with a little more incentive.
“It’s kind of a chip on my shoulder when I play them because I like playing those teams,” he said.
MSU will move the rotation up one day with the Thursday-Friday-Saturday weekend series.
Junior righty Trevor Fitts (2-2, 3.30 ERA) will go today, with junior lefty Ross Mitchell (6-3, 2.13 ERA) a possibility on Friday.
Redshirt freshman right hander Preston Brown has pitched since March 29 against Arkansas. He has been bothered by an injury, but Cohen says he is a real possibility for this weekend.
“He threw really, really well earlier in the week and he might be available,” Cohen said. “We’re going to wait and see if he’s available for potentially Friday or Saturday, and we move Ross accordingly.”
MSU junior left hander Jacob Lindgren was named to the midseason watch list for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award.
Lindgren is 3-0 with a 1.50 ERA in 15 appearances this season.
