Blog – Mitchell named SEC Pitcher of the Week, Bulldogs move in polls

Ross Mitchell threw a complete game four-hitter Saturday against Georgia to pick up the honor of Southeastern Conference pitcher of the Week.

It is the second time he has won the award in the past three weeks.

Mitchell was scheduled to start, but after the Bulldogs lost on Friday, head coach John Cohen decided to give Mitchell the ball in the first game on Saturday. The Bulldogs rode Mitchell to a 6-1 win and then won the next game to take the series from UGA.

After going 3-1 this past week and picking up the SEC road series win at Georgia, the Bulldogs (15-8, 2-1) rose in two polls.

They went from No. 24 to No. 21 in the Baseball America poll. MSU went from No. 20 to No. 17 in the Perfect Game poll.

The Bulldogs dropped in the Collegiate Baseball poll from No. 23 to No. 24.
