With the 2014 season just hours away, Mississippi State’s Jonathan Holder may have gotten the first win of the season.
The junior right hander was selected to the Golden Spikes Award watch list as announced Friday morning. The award is given to nation’s top amateur baseball player.
The initial list includes 60 players, 12 of those players from the Southeastern Conference.
Holder totaled a school-record 21 saves last season. It also matched the SEC single-season record. South Carolina’s Blake Taylor had 21 saves during the 2002 season.
For Holder’s career, he has a 4-1 record, a 1.19 earned run average, 30 saves and 120 strikeouts.
The Bulldogs start the season at 6:30 p.m. tonight against Western Carolina at Dudy Noble Field.
