Blog – Pregame: No. 15 South Carolina at. No. 23 Mississippi State

No. 23 (Collegiate Baseball) Mississippi State (38-15, 14-13) and No. 15 South Carolina (38-14, 16-10) come into the final weekend of the season, with a great deal on the line.

The Bulldogs are currently third place in the SEC Western division and fifth overall. The Gamecocks are second in the East and are third overall.

The top four teams get a first round bye in the SEC Tournament. The Bulldogs need a sweep of the Gamecocks and an Ole Miss loss to LSU this weekend to earn the No. 4 seed.

“This is what you want,” MSU head coach John Cohen said in his Wednesday teleconference. “You want to go into weekends like this at the end of the year where everything matters. You want to be totally in the thick of it. Almost every goal that we have had to start the year, with the exception of winning the Southeastern Conference, is still in front of us.”

The Bulldogs will throw senior left hander Luis Pollorena (6-3, 3.86 ERA) Thursday night. The Gamecocks will go with senior lefty Nolan Belcher (7-5, 2.23).
