Blog – Baseball notes: Texas A&M, Lindgren, Renfroe

The No. 26 (Collegiate Baseball) Mississippi State Bulldogs (27-9, 5-7) travel to College Station, Texas this weekend to take on the No. 24 Texas A&M Aggies (21-13, 6-6).

Friday’s game is set for 6:35 p.m., Saturday’s start time is 12:35 p.m. and can be seen on Fox Sports South and Sunday’s finale is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.

Junior outfielder Hunter Renfroe dove for a ball Tuesday night against Ole Miss in Pearl. He came up holding his wrist and the trainer went to check on him. MSU head coach John Cohen feels he will be ready for this weekend.

“Hunter gave us a little bit of a scare, but I just finished hitting this morning with Hunter,” Cohen said in  his Thursday morning teleconference. “His wrist is fine, so that’s not an issue.”

Sophomore LHP Jacob Lindgren (2-1, 3.31 ERA) has battled several injuries this season. He did pitch last Sunday against Florida, but was taken out in the fourth inning after fielding a bunt and coming up limping. His right ankle was injured, but Cohen feels like he will pitch Sunday.

“We feel like Jacob Lindgren’s ankle is going to be good enough to pitch on Sunday at A&M,” Cohen said. “He continues to progress. Hopefully he will be able to go on Sunday. His arm is fine.”

The Bulldogs will throw senior lefty Luis Pollorena (5-1, 3.29) on Friday. Senior righty Kendall Graveman (4-2, 1.99) who was selected as Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week after throwing his second consecutive complete game last week, will throw on Saturday.

Pollorena, a Laredo, Texas native, will be returning home to pitch in front of family and friends.

“In a state like Texas, there is going to be a heck of a lot kids who aren’t going to end up at those schools,” Cohen said. “His family coming up from deep in south Texas, it’s the same distance as us traveling form here to Tallahassee, Fla. It is in the same state, but it’s a great, great distance to College Station. I hope that our kids have that healthy enough attitude to where it’s not Texas A&M, you’re competing against the game and you’re competing against home plate.”
