- MSU junior pitcher Devin Jones
Mississippi State junior right-handed pitcher Devin Jones is less than 24 hours away from being the property of the Baltimore Orioles franchise.
Jones, who informed The SDN Bulldog Blog via a text message Tuesday evening, will be signing Wednesday and receiving a $97,500 signing bonus before reporting to a 10-day mini-camp in Sarasota, Fla. After that camp, Jones is expecting to report to Class Advanced-A Aberdeen (Md.) Ironbirds.
Jones finished the 2011 season with a 2-5 record and a 4.37 earned run average including 49 strikeouts in 59.2 innings pitched.
Jones, a 49th-round selection out of Eupora High School three years ago by the Cleveland Indians, said last week he was still considering his options of coming back to Mississippi State for his senior season of college baseball.
